Background

Christopher's research focus is centred on Open Innovation (a paradigm that assumes that firms can and should use external ideas as well as internal ideas, and internal and external paths to market, as the firms look to advance their technology), systems of innovation and the Triple-Helix Model (which posits that the potential for innovation and economic development in a Knowledge Society lies in a hybridisation of elements from university, industry and government). He became interested in the area while writing his dissertation for a MA (Hons) in Management and a MRES in Research methods, which led to studying for a PhD at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.

Along these lines, Christopher recently published in the journal Industry & Higher Education his paper, Open Innovation, Triple-Helix and regional innovation systems: Exploring CATAPULT Centres in the UK, in conjunction with Prof Michael Danson.

Christopher also has a keen interest in teaching pedagogy. In his current role at ARU, he is the Deputy Head of the School of Management, responsible for developing and disseminating innovative teaching practice. He is also the deputy course leader for the first year Business Management module.
